Using Lizardmen in Battlelore – Version 0.7 rules

G’day guys,

I must admit I’ve let this blog lapse a bit since all the really exciting movement on my Rise of the Occulites games. You may have seen the photos of the greens over here: – The figures are actually winging their way over from the UK to Australia now, so hopefully we’ll see them cast up shortly.

But I thought that the first post back here needed to be something special and so I thought I’d kick it off with some custom rules for using Lizardmen in one of my favourite boardgames – Battlelore. The rules have seen some playtesting and are version 0.7, but I am looking for some feedback to bring these up to a more uniformly balanced version before adding in the custom heroes rules. Yes that’s right, hero rules that are thematic and specific to the Lizardmen faction, but more on them later. There is no copyright infringement intented. These are simply fan rules.

I’ve been watching Boardgamegeek, DOW, FFG for years looking at the variants that folks come up with to convert Warhammer’esque armies to Battlelore. This is, in my opinion, the best effort yet. How would you “build” an army. I’m not a tournament / competition person – but I always see the value of points systems for assembling matched (or deliberately unmatched) forces . Do you have an army building system in mind? I have a nice 28mm LZman army and a few other Warhammer/human armies. I’d like to find a way to have a “balanced” match to test out your system. I’m anxious to see what else you come up with….and of course am very grateful for whatever you provide.

I am in the middle of implementing the Lizardmen army through CTA cards and Specialist cards, which I will upload when they are finished.
Over at BGG, I have uploaded version 0.8 which changes the “Marsh Dweller” ability to “At One With Nature”, which actually helps balance out the army a bit. With Marsh Dweller, they could be either too strong or too weak. So this helps. There is also some designation given (Common, Uncommon, Rare and Rare – Specialist Card) to units, which will help too.
